Donna Boen (pronounced Bowen) is editor of Miamian, Miami's alumni magazine, both the printed edition and the online version, Miamian on the Web (www.MiamiAlum.org/Miamian). A 1983 graduate of Miami with a bachelor's in mass communication, she started writing professionally as a freelancer for the Dayton Daily News while in college. After graduation, she joined the Columbus (Ohio) Citizen-Journal as a general assignment reporter.

She returned to Miami in 1985 as assistant director of the News Bureau, becoming editor of Miamian six years later. In 1996, she completed a master's at Miami in technical and scientific communication.

Donna's taken piano lessons for year, and even though she still quakes at the sight of a song in five flats, she appreciates how music has helped develop the rhythm of her writing—both when it's flat and when it's sharp.
