Ways to Make Computers Communicate:

Transferring Files from M-Drive to Home

I. Without Remote Site Definition:

Go to the URL of your web page. Click on File, then "Save Page As." Save it into the place on your home computer (somewhere on your C-Drive) where you are working on your web site. If you have an earlier version at home, you will be asked if you want to overwrite or replace that earlier version. IF AND ONLY IF YOU MOST RECENTLY WORKED IN A LAB -- that is, if the latest version is in your M-Drive -- then, and only then, say "yes."

II. If you have defined your M-Disk as your Remote Site, you can use the "get" function:

If you most recently worked on a page or pages of your site in a lab, saving them on the M-Drive, you can get that page or pages at home. Open your site in the "Files" box on the right-hand side of the page. It's name, whatever you named it, should appear in the drop-down box -- click on it to open it. Then click on "Remote View" in the drop-down box at the very right. Highlight the page you want to work on. Click on "Site" either at the top of your page or at the right-hand side of your page, to make appear this drop-down box:

Click on "Get."

Transferring Files from Home to M-Drive

I. Without Remote Site Definition:

Using netDisk:

  • Log in to http://mymiami.muohio.edu
  • Click on at the top of the screen.
  • You should see your documents and folders listed:

  • Click on "public.www" to get into the folder where you have (or should have) put your web pages.
  • Click on "Upload File" at the left.
  • Browse to the file on your computer that you want to put in your web-page space (it is somewhere on your C-Drive, and only you know where; if you forget, search for it by the file or document title before beginning this process).
  • If you have an earlier version in your public.www space, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the folder. IF AND ONLY IF THE DOCUMENT AT HOME IS THE LATEST VERSION, say "yes."

II. If you have defined your M-Disk as your Remote Site, you can use the "put" function.

Make sure while working on a page that you are in the Site (Local View). After working on a page, before you close it, click on "Site" either at the top of the screen or in the "Files" box at the right:

Then click on "Put." Now check on the Internet to make certain that the latest version is in your M-Drive. (Make certain to click the refresh or reload button of your browser!)
