The Department of Philosophy offers those philosophy majors with superior academic ability the opportunity to enroll in a Departmental Honors program. Majors interested in earning departmental honors should maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all their studies, have a GPA of at least 3.5 in their philosophy courses, complete the two-course sequence of independent reading PHL 480 (3 credits each semester for 6 total credits), and submit a final paper which is the culmination of their independent study. Candidates for departmental honors must register for PHL 480 only after obtaining the consent of the chair of the Department. The independent reading course PHL 480 will be supervised by a member of the Department.
