Undergraduate Research at Miami University

Held in mid April each year, the Miami Undergraduate Research Forum showcases the creative and scholarly activities our undergraduates have been engaged in over the course of the academic year. The public is invited to join us on April 10th to celebrate and promote undergraduate engagment in learning and their scholarly achievements.

Miami is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World report for its "unusually strong commitment to undergraduate teaching". Getting involved in research allows students to build meaningful relationships with our dedicated Miami faculty outside of the traditional classroom setting. Our model of engaged inquiry encourages critical thinking and peer-assisted learning to provide students with personal, educational, and professional growth. By participating in undergraduate research, students gain experience and skills valued by employers, graduate schools and medical schools.

Research is the search for knowledge
Miami student researchers craft their own understanding of the value of inquiry-based learning. Every program at Miami has opportunities for students to excel through research experiences. They learn that the research process involves systematic investigations to establish novel facts, solve new or existing problems, explore new creative ideas, or develop new theories. Miami students do not have to be a science major to participate in undergraduate research. Students get involved in undergraduate research in the: humanities, education, fine and performing arts, and social sciences. Indeed, Miami undergraduate researchers often present their work at regional and national conferences.

Miami sponsors these undergraduate research opportunities through Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship.
