LISTSERV is mailing list management software from L-Soft international, Inc. designed specifically to manage electronic mail lists.

What is an electronic mail list?

An electronic mail list is a tool that distributes a single electronic mail message to multiple recipients, whose e-mail addresses are maintained on one central list.

Electronic mail lists can meet a variety of communication needs, including information dissemination (such as distribution of news and announcements) and asynchronous dialogue and discussion.

Instructional uses of electronic mail lists at Miami University include:

  • distributing course syllabi, lecture notes, assignment information, and schedule changes
  • facilitating dialogue between students and instructors between class sessions
  • discussing class lectures

Research uses include:

  • communicating among project team members across the University and around the world
