How do I choose which Miami Notebook to purchase?

Unbeatable service, value and convenience

Choosing the right computer for college can be an agonizing decision for many students. The Miami Notebook program makes this process simple by bringing together all the information you need to make the choice that is best for you!

Once you have reviewed the advantages and services provided by the notebook program and wish to participate in the Miami Notebook program, follow these 3 easy steps.

  • Step 1. Review the academic preferences listed for some departments. If you know what major you are seeking, these preferences can help guide your decision.
  • Step 2. Review our model comparison. In addition to providing the technical specifications, we've attempted to highlight some of the comparisons between the available models.
  • Step 3. Choose one. We recommend first-year students purchase their laptop during orientation in June, but they are available any time of the year. Ordering is easy!

Step 1: Review Departmental Preferences

A few academic programs provide specific computer/software recommendations for students due to curricular requirements and/or the technology students are most likely to find "in the field" in a given profession. The following chart outlines the Miami Notebook models that match the recommendations of undergraduate academic programs. Graduate students should check with their program advisor for guidance. Please Note: Throughout the month of May, these recommendations are being discussed and revised.

Yes plus Windows indicates majors that will expect you to run Windows on your Mac at some point due to the use of Windows-only applications in the curriculum. At the beginning of each semester, IT Services hosts a series of workshops for Miami Notebook students seeking help installing Windows on their Mac. Sign-up for one of these sessions to save countless hours of effort.
