The village of "Differtingen" is first mentioned in a deed of gift dating from May 1235, in which Alexandre de Soleuvre donated a house, windmill and lake to the nuns of the Fontaine-Marie abbey. However, archaeological evidence reveals that the area was inhabited at least two thousand years before this! The development of Differdange is closely linked to the development of the steel industry, as Differdange is now Luxembourg's third largest city - home of the Arcelor Steel plant...and THE Miami University! In September of 1997, the MUDEC program moved from Luxembourg City to our current 16th century medieval Chateau in order to provide students with added richness, inspiration and a living history for their European experience. Garlache park and the 'Place du Marche,' or the pedestrian zone, are beautiful and peaceful areas that are surround by the post office, supermarket and a collection of shops and eateries.
