Winter Break Off-Campus Housing Options:

Travel

One of your best option is to make travel plans. Ask friends if they are interested in visiting a major city like Chicago or New York. You may have friends or family in other cities and this would be a great time for a short visit. Whatever your travel plans, if you plan to fly, arrange your flights early. That way, your ticket will cost less and you can make a reservation on the Miami airport shuttle to one of four major airports. Check with the Shriver Ticket Box Office in Shriver Center for airport transportation options before booking your flights.

Please Note: If you will be traveling outside the country during the break period, please make an appointment with an International Student Adviser at the Office of International Education to ensure that all of your documentation is current and valid before you leave the country.

Important Information About Staying At A Friend’s Apartment Over Break

*Please Note:  Please check with your landlord about guest policies over the break. International students should not move into off-campus housing with friends.  Everyone living in off-campus housing must have signed leases with the landlord or property manager. Most leases limit the amount of time that visitors can stay in off-campus apartments. It is important to abide by those details and keep your landlord informed about guests if you are planning to have friends stay at your apartment/house during the break.

Oxford West Holiday Housing:

Oxford West Apartments is offering international students limited holiday housing during the Winter Break Holiday. This may be a good option for international students need to find a housing alternative during the on-campus residence hall closures. Holiday housing leases are available from December 17, 2010 to January 10, 2011 for a flat rate of $400 per person (rate includes water, sewer, trash, recycling and utilities), and includes the following:

  • Use of the assigned apartment
  • Basic furnishings (bed, desk, kitchen table + chairs)
  • Basic sundries (paper products, limited cooking utensils)

The units are multiple (2-3) bedroom apartments and students do not need to find roommates. Oxford West will match students accordingly.   Please contact Oxford Way Apartments at leasing@oxfordwestapartments.com or visit http://www.oxfordwestapartments.com/ for more information.
