Digital Mapping Workshop
Humanities Scholars are increasingly using the capabilities of the Geographic Information System (GIS) in projects such as these. In order to help our faculty and graduate students develop GIS-based projects, the Humanities Center will offer a Digital Mapping Workshop this winter.
The workshop will be led by Liza Skryzhevska (Associate Professor of Geography) and Robbyn Abbitt (GIS Coordinator, Geography). It will meet 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. from Tuesday, January 19 through Thursday, January 21. The workshop will provide basic instruction in GIS and individualized guidance as participants begin or develop individual projects. Faculty participants will receive $250 to support their research.
Call for Applications to the January 2016 Workshop.
The workshop is open to all full-time faculty and graduate students in the humanities, broadly construed. Application is simple: please submit a c.v. and a brief (one-paragraph) statement describing your interest in the program, including any current or future projects for which you might need GIS. In your statement, please indicate your position and years of service at Miami. In selecting participants, the Humanities Center Steering Committee will consider scholarly record, progress on the project, and career stage.
Applications are due December 4, 2015 to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please write “Digital Mapping Workshop” in the subject heading of your message. Selected participants agree to attend all sessions of the workshop and make progress on a digital project of some kind.
