English Faculty Fund Graduate Writing Awards

>Eric Goodman>Frank JordanA new name and more funding: that’s what’s in store for Miami University’s Graduate Creative Writing Awards. Starting in 2015, the Graduate Writing Awards will be renamed the Jordan-Goodman Graduate Writing Awards. The new moniker gives recognition to Professor Emeritus of Literature Frank Jordan and former Creative Writing Program Director, Eric Goodman.

Creative Writing Senior Writes, Performs Original Comedy

The Daily Grind posterInspired by Saturday Night Live comedians such as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, and armed with writing skills cultivated by Second City in Chicago, senior Jane Streeter is on her way to achieving her dream: becoming a comedy writer.
For her senior creative writing project, Streeter presented a
comedy sketch called The Daily Grind.

Faculty Research Receives National and University Grants

Associate Professor Katharine Gillespie has recently been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Five additional English faculty have received support for their projects from Miami's Committee on Research.

Scholarship Established to Honor Alumna

Carol Neal Levi, a 1957 English Literature alumna who died in 2010, bequeathed over $450,000 to create a scholarship fund for Miami University English undergraduates. The need-based scholarship for first-year students is managed by the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

Alumnus and Emeritus Donald W. Fritz Creates Professorship

Donald W. Fritz (’56, M.A. ’59), whose time as a student, professor and staff member at Miami University exceeds five decades, recently chose to honor Miami’s faculty and support disenfranchised or marginalized populations through the creation of the Donald W. Fritz Professorship. Fritz was a long-time professor of medieval British literature, director of the graduate program for the department of English and a former director of The Performing Arts Series at Miami.
