Community-Based Leadership

...a new multidisciplinary minor program


An 18-hour minor in community-based leadership, emphasizing a multi-disciplinary, competency- based study of leadership as practiced in diverse communities.

Students will explore leadership as it is practiced in communities, organizations, and public institutions. Core coursework is organized around explorations of leadership as a critical activity for contemporary public life in a democratic society.


  • Course offerings from over a dozen departments on campus provide opportunities for student choice in electives.
  • Designed to help students explore leadership as it relates to specific community-based problems and issues in diverse communities and organizations.
  • Promotes self-reflection, ethical judgment, and catalytic problem-solving in communities addressing complex problems.
