Animals

Surprisingly, you notice a rat that's eating fish and even an occasional egg or two. Well, where do you think the rat got them? That's right, the birds! After following the rat to a bird's nest, you watch him scurry away with a piece of dropped fish. Mmmm, tasty!

While watching the birds and animals, you think about the web of life. The bobito flies suck fluids from around the eyes of seabirds. The spiders make webs near the seabird colonies and catch flies by the hundreds. Lizards and scorpions eat the spiders and other predatory insects (lizards eat bobito flies, too). In fact, Dr. Polis found eight times more spiders and 15 times more lizards inside the bird colonies than outside the colonies. Birds make a big contribution to the webs of life!
