Both of you decide that you can use the battery as the power, the coat hanger as an antenna, and the transistor radio to create the waves, although the radio is partially broken. By using a connecting cable to your computer the transistor radio displays the constant sound wave that it being emitted from the radio onto the screen.
Martha suggests that in order for the ship to hear your signal, the sound must be quick enough for any ship's intruments to pick up. You need to adjust the frequency or the amplitude of the wave.
