Hey, even cryobiologists need to thaw out sometimes......
Filming for NOVA
Producer Vince Liota and his team from NOVA visited with us on April 9 and 10, 2013, to film an interview and time-lapse sequence of a thawing wood frog. This is the second time our lab has worked with the talented folks at NOVA. The footage appeared in a segment (ca. 21:00) on the program, Making Stuff Colder, which aired October 30, 2013. To the left of Costanzo is David Pogue, the show's jocular host.
The Amazing CRYOTS
CRYOTS is an award-winning trivia team active in NTN's Buzztime Trivia Network. We play regularly at our local establishment. Check out our stats. In late August 2013, we crossed the 5,000,000 Players Plus point threshold. We spurred our location to become league champion in the Spring 2010 Showdown Throwdown National Tournament.
Tuesday night festivities
Make plump oval ground beef patties, top with sharp cheddar chunks laid in a pattern, wrap in a bacon weave, and then tuck in cut hotdogs to make the head, legs, and tail. One dog cut in fourths makes four legs; one half-dog makes the head; and the remainder makes a pointed tail. Split the legs to make turtle toesies.
Place on a cookie sheet, cover loosely with foil, and bake 20-30 min at 400°F. A little crispy, not too crunchy...just how a turtle should be, no?
