Faculty Study Abroad Learning Community

Purpose and Description

The first Faculty Study Abroad Learning Community will be formed during the Fall 2011 semester led by Chen Ferguson. The learning community will get familiar with the entire process of study abroad: developing a proposal, recruiting students, preparing the trip and managing study abroad risks. The learning community will invite study abroad experts and faculty to share their insights. The learning community will also help participants to establish overseas contacts.

The Fall 2011 Learning Community:

  • Is open to faculty members with permanent standing on the regional campuses who have not led a MU study abroad program before

  • Up to 6 participants will be accepted from both regional campuses

  • Will meet approximately 4 times in 2-hour sessions during Fall 2011

  • Participants will receive a $300 professional development stipend

  • Participants should be willing to explore study abroad programs by the end of the learning community
  • This Faculty Learning Community is funded by the Regional Campuses. Please contact Chen Ferguson for more information.
