Refunds

Refunds are processed for individuals who have credit balances on their accounts. Refunds are sent through direct deposit into any bank in the United States. There are several reasons why an individual may have a credit balance.

  • Financial Aid - When a financial aid award exceeds the amount of charges on an account a credit balance is created. Refunds for surplus Financial Aid are processed within 14 days after the Financial Aid disbursement.

  • Student withdrawals and schedule changes - When a student withdraws from the University the student may be due a refund based on the refund schedule below. No refunds will be made until thirty (30) days have elapsed from the effective date of withdrawal.

  • Miscellaneous credit balances occur from time to time as a result of a cancellation of an appealed charge or an overpayment on an account. These refunds are processed as they are discovered or requested by the student. An individual is not eligible for a refund unless the cancellation causes a credit balance.

Financial Aid Refunds

Oxford Campus

Students who receive more financial aid than their fees may receive a refund from the University.  Students who have completed the financial aid process and have registered for the required number of credit hours at least ten days before the term begins may receive a refund in the first week of the term, providing there is a credit balance after all University charges have been paid.

Visit the Financial Assistance website at www.miamioh.edu/sfa/timeline for loan disbursement time lines.  Refunds are processed within 14 days after loans are disbursed.

Financial Appeal Policy

Dropping or withdrawing from a course is a formal administrative procedure; merely ceasing to attend class is not the same as dropping a course. Refunds for dropped courses follow the University policy, available at www.MiamiOH.edu/bursar/refund. The official refund date for a drop or withdraw is the date that is filed by the Oxford Office of the Registrar or the Regional Records and Registration office. In cases where an extenuating circumstance is involved, a student can appeal the refund for one or all classes. The Financial Appeals committee meets once a month to review student initiated financial appeals. Non-attendance does not void financial responsibility.

All Financial appeals must be received no later than 30 days from the end of the semester. Financial appeals should include documentation that describes the extenuating circumstances (extraordinary circumstances usually beyond the student’s control). After the appeal group meets, the student will be notified via email of the outcome related to the appeal. Decisions made by the appeal committee are final.

Students should forward the appeal form click here to begin the Financial Appeal process.
